Todd English Food Hall

Seems that everyone in Manila is waiting for a chance to dine at TODD ENGLISH FOOD HALL!  At least that's what it seemed to me, when we waited for our table to be ready last Sunday.  It's a good thing we went right after Sunday Service, and when we got there the list wasn't that long yet.  But a few minutes after, super haba na...

The curiosity about the place is well-placed; after all, TODD ENGLISH is the first restaurant by an international celebrity chef to open in Manila.  Todd English Food Hall started in the Plaza Hotel in New York.

While waiting, we perused the menu to decide on what to order already. The place looks upscale, but the prices are quite affordable.
Don't worry, they have seats outside for those who are waiting, which is a good thing because waiting time can extend for as long as 2 hours daw.  It's not really a first come, first served  type of reservations.  They seat patrons based on the number of seats that become available.  So if you are a big group and you don't want to wait forever, it is best that you split up the group.

Honestly, the place reminds me somewhat of Food Opera at ION, only this is smaller in size and definitely looks twice as upscale.

To be simple about how to describe it, it kinda looks like a hotel buffet because of the presence of the food theaters, but the cost of eating here is definitely lower than a hotel buffet. There are a total of 9 cooking stations. This is the Salad Station:

The Asian cooking station

The Raw Bar

The pasta food station where all pasta are freshly made.

The dessert station has this giant cupcake ferris wheel!

They have a wide selection of wines available, and a list of imported beers, too.  When we were there C wanted to order Stella Artois and Hoegaarden,  but they did not have any stock.

The restaurant also has an area where they sell well-curated pantry staples, cookbooks, candies, etc...

I would love to have these gourmet salts in my pantry.

Garlic Mozzarella Bread (P190).  Homemade onion brioche with browned riasted garlic butter, mozzarella cheese, served with homemade tomato sauce.

Todd English Half Chicken (P320) is a 24-hour brined chicken, with sauteed corn, tomato and edamame served with mango vinaigrette.

Charrred Octopus (P365) is served with chick pea, chorizo, salsa verde, anchovy butter and arugula salad.

Mac N Cheese with Truffles (P420).  They serve 4 version of Mac N Cheese:  Plain (P390), wtih crab (P450), and with lobster (P520).

Linguini Food Hall Vongole (P250).

Homemade Cured Bacon (P450) Lightly smoked homemade cured bacon served with squash puree and tomato sauce.  My son ordered this and he was disappointed because he was expecting his favorite thinly sliced and deliciously salty breakfast bacon ( which I don't serve as often as he'd want me to)  hahaha! So funny to see his smile turn upside down when the waiter put down his plate.

Overall, it was a good experience at TODD ENGLISH FOOD HALL.  Our server was very attentive to all our needs. I asked for warm water to go with my meal, and she refilled my cup whenever it's halfway full, without me asking her to.  And she had to do this several times, because warm water to me is like what wine and beer is to my husband. tee-hee!:)

The food presentation is what you would find from a fine-dining restaurant, and the servings are not small, either.  The price is reasonable, too.  I did not find the food spectacularly "wow, "  but it wasn't bad, either. We had a good experience and we will be back to try some of the other items on the menu.

  2. Haven't eaten at Todd English Food Hall yet. Thought kasi the prices were expensive. But seeing your post, the menu are priced reasonably! Will definitely eat here the next time I visit SM Aura. Hopefully, we won't have to wait an hour or 2 by then. XD
