Mother's Day is coming up soon. Have you planned how you are going to celebrate it? In my family, we just treat it like any other ordinary Sunday; we go to Sunday worship and have lunch together. Although, I always expect hand-written notes from my kids. That is the highlight of my Mother's Day. Notes, are enough for me, but the girls usually give me something bought with their own savings, too.
A few days ago, Sofitel Philippine Plaza invited some of the SoMoms to attend the press launching of their Mother's Day event, A Mother's Legacy.
1. The 21 food ateliers of Spiral will showcase the master chefs sharing culinary traditions that have been with their families for generations.
2. Live demonstrations from women artisans. Guests will be invited to participate in these mini-workshops at Spiral during lunch and dinner from May 10 until May 17.
3. The art of floral expression will be showcased with their resident botanical specialist doing a special workshop on May 10 dinner and May 11 brunch.
We were introduced to the chefs who would all present their secret family recipes handed down by the women in their family from their mothers, to grandmothers to great-grandmothers. Standing in the middle, wearing a barong, is Tanguy Gras, the French General Manager of Spiral.
One of the highlight of my Spiral experience was a visit to their cheese atelier, L'Epicerie ." It has its own room with enough cheese from different parts of the world. The moment I said yes to this event, enjoying the cheese room was the most awaited part of my meal.:)
To complement the cheese, there are also Italian and Spanish cured meats, as well as condiments like nuts and dried fruits.
And the Philippine's own Malagos Cheese has a place in this room.
The huge refrigerators to store the numerous cheese.
After lunch, Sofitel's resident botanical specialist, Larry Pagasanjan, gave a short workshop on how to make innovative floral arrangements. Here I am taking the floral arrangement seriously. :)
Witness live demonstrations from women artisan weavers, barong embroiderer and basket weavers. Guests will be invited to participate in these mini-workshops at Spiral during lunch and dinner from May 10 to May 17.
An Abel Iloco weaver from Ilocos Norte produces a traditional woven textile that designer Ryan Madamba has infused with a modern twist.
Bergamo's women weavers source the best pina materials to create beautiful hand-woven fabrics.
Edita Dacuycuy sells her cookies, wine and other products using dragon fruit. What started as a cure for her daughter's cerebral palsy evolved to the first organic dragon fruit plantation in the country.
