Phenomenal Tip: DIY Beef Pepper Rice




Whenever R does well in a swim meet, he always asks for his current fave food as reward.

A few weeks ago he competed in the first leg of the short course season for 2017. Although, he wasn't able to meet the time his coach set for him for 100 freestyle (his coach wanted him to clock in 58 seconds), but still he was able to finish the race in less than a minute, which is still pretty impressive.

So anyway, we went home happy with two silver medals.


The next day, he asked me to make him some Beef Pepper Rice. How can I say no to my fave son, di ba?

I don't have a sizzling plate at home, but it doesn't matter. Nasarapan pa din naman siya.




BEEF PEPPER RICE

500g Top round beef, sliced sukiyaki style
2 tbsp soy sauce
Dash of freshly ground black pepper
1 tsp garlic powder

1/2 tbsp cooking oil (I just discovered Grande Rice Bran Oil and that's what I've been using at the moment)
small onion, minced
2-4 cloves garlic, minced

1 container canned corn
Butter
Furikake

Garlic-Honey Sauce
1 tbsp cooking oil (I used Rice Bran Oil)
1 small onion, minced
2 cloves garlic, minced 
1/4 cup Honey
2 tbsp Kikkoman soy sauce
1/8 tsp Iodized salt
dash of pepper
1 tsp Cornstarch
1/4 cup Water

1. Mix soy sauce, garlic powder and pepper in a container. Marinate beef in soy sauce mixture for at least 1 hour.
2. In a small pan, add oil and then add onion and garlic and just sauté until onion is translucent and garlic is slightly golden. Add soy sauce, honey, salt and pepper. Mix cornstarch and water in a bowl and slowly add to sauce and cook until boils and slightly thickens. Set aside.
3. Heat up medium-sized pan to a high heat, add oil, onions and garlic. Add beef in batches, stirring continuously until beef is cooked, about, 3-5 minutes.
4. Add 1 cup of rice (per person) in the middle of a plate, and top rice with a slice of butter. Add the corn on top of rice. Top with furikake, if you like.
5.Add the beef around the rice. Sprinkle freshly ground pepper on your beef. Serve with the garlic-honey sauce.
