Advice To My Teen Daughters On Finding Their Personal Style

My daughters used to go to me every Sunday to ask my help on what to wear, but they hardly do that anymore. Not that often anyway. They have somehow developed their own sense of style, and are now confident in the sartorial choices they make.

As a mom, I want to teach my girls that style is not just about nice clothes, but ultimately it is a balance about feeling and looking good. About being confident and comfortable in who they are and what they are wearing.
There are a LOT of times where we step out in color coordinated outfits, UNPLANNED.
This is one of them where we are all wearing navy and Breton stripes.

ZIPPY Kidstore + How To Make The Most of Your Kids' Clothes

One of the things I realized as a mom is that kids grow out of stuff fast! Especially now that I've got pre-teens, it seems like they grow an inch everytime I turn around. I buy my eleven year old son a new pair of jeans, and after six months bitin na! He outgrows his pants so fast that I've decided we are going to stop buying pants in the meantime. Mag shorts na lang muna siya! Hahaha!

#Gingersnapsat20: Celebrating Gingersnaps' 20 Years of Style

Gingersnaps celebrated its 20th year in the industry with an Anniversary Fashion Show at the SMX Convention Cetner in SM Aura Premier.  It was an afternoon filled with delightful thrills, colorful outfits, and sweet treats catered by Bizu.

My kids were happy to be there.  B was excited to watch the kids walk down the runway, while the li'l man was content with yummy treats by Bizu.  His #OOTD is courtesy of Gingersnaps.  The camo print shorts is a fave. The long-sleeved sweater and the polo in contrasting color is easy to mix and match with other pieces in his closet.

The show was hosted by Daphne Osena-Paez who was wearing a beautiful dress by K&Co.  The brand's president, Jerry Uy, also gave a short speech.  Gingersnaps was started in 1993 by couple, Jerry and Sabrina Uy, in a modest department store corner.  Gingersnaps has now grown to 38 department store corners and 77 boutiques in seven countires, namely Philippines, Thaniland, Singapore, Malaysia, Indonesia, Saudi Arabia and UAE.
What followed next was an adorable line-up of chic outfits modeled by these adorable kids from ages 3-12 donned in Gingersnaps clothing.

Most of the SoMoms were there to support the cute daughter of Tin Dychiao of Manila Fashion Oberver as this little girl confidently worked the runway like a pro.

Thanks to Jerry and Sabrina Uy of Gingersnaps for making the SoMoms and SoKids a part of your anniversary celebration!  Here's hoping for many more years of success!

What are you waiting for?  Head on over to the nearest store to dress your own kids in these adorable outifts. Meanwhile, here are some pegs to inspire you.

Gingersnaps: Fashion for Kids

Gingersnaps has always been one of our favorite clothing brands.  My girls, most especially, grew up wearing Gingersnaps.  My girls have Gingersnaps dresses where both of them could wear it at the same time even if they are 2-4 sizes apart because they could alternate wearing it as dresses and tunics.  I could extend the life of the dresses by a few more years because of this.  Photo below shows my daughter's all time favorite Gingersnaps dress (which she has been wearing for several years now) which she now wears as a tunic.
My oldest has just moved up to their Just G line (for teens) a few years ago.  There are always a LOT of cute designs for both boys and girls, that we always end up buying something whenever we go in the store.

When I was invited to watch the fashion show of Gingersnaps AND bring along my kids, I knew I had to say yes to that.  I know my not-so-li'l girl would be thrilled to watch the fashion show of one of her favorite clothing brands.

The invite for the fashion show also came with a super generous offer for my kids get to choose any Gingersnaps outfit of their choice!!! My li'l girl was excited beyond words!  We went to their store at Shangrila Plaza to choose an outfit for each of my younger kids.

B excitedly chose several outfits to try on, but sadly, she is in-between sizes.  There were outfits that she really loved but couldn't fit her anymore, and the clothes at Just G were still too big for her.  Look at the dreamy Gingersnaps dresses in vibrant summer colors!
The gold sequined shorts at Just G looks adorable; if only it weren't that short, I would have bought one for myself!:)

In the end, B finally chose one of their toothpick jeans, and she paired it with an adorable owl tee.  She found the fit of the jeans comfortable, and wanted to buy in all colors.:)

My li'l man had no problem choosing at all.  He was game to wear a coral pair of denim (shown below) but it wasn't available in his size anymore, so we just looked for another pair in his size.  Typical of any boy his age, he asked while fitting his clothes, "Can dad and I go buy Legos when I am done choosing because I didn't give you a hard time?"  O sige na nga.:)

Watch out for my post on the Gingersnaps Fashion show coming soon!  Overload of cuteness in that one!

Weekend Footnotes

Belated Happy Chinese New Year! So how did you celebrate yours?

My family celebrated the Chinese New Year's Eve by having dinner at LiLi, the Chinese restaurant of Hyatt Manila.

Of course, we couldn't resist having the two-way Peking Duck.  The second way was served on a bed of lettuce, which we barely touched because we were too full already so we just brought it home to enjoy as the next day's meal.

We didn't see the dragon dance, but we were visited by this "Chinese emperor" who went around giving treats to everyone.  He was actually carrying a tin can filled with thin wooden sticks, similar to the one they have in Chinese temples when you visit the Chinese fortune teller.  Our table got lucky and won a bottle of wine!

Look what my fortune cookie says.... looks like traveling will be done in the foreseeable future!!!
On Saturday, the SoMoms and SoKids were invited to attend the 20th Anniversary of Gingersnaps at the SMX of SM Aura Premier.  More about the #Gingersnapsat20 in a separate post.
After church last Sunday, lunch was at Kimukatsu the East Wing of Shangri-la Plaza.  They boast of their extremely juicy 25-layer pork cutlet.  We ordered the four-piece family set, and it came with unlimited rice, cabbage, miso soup, and Japanese pickles.

That's about my weekend!  Till the next one!:)
